Sabyasachi Mukherjee is the founder and CEO of Sabyasachi, India’s leading luxury design house. He set up his eponymous studio with a workforce of three people in 1999. A market pioneer, there have been many firsts since—he is the first Indian designer and brand to collaborate with H&M, Bergdorf Goodman, Pottery Barn, Thomas Goode and Christian Louboutin. Patrons of the brand include celebrities, royals, intellectuals, and achievers—from dressing Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas for their Indian wedding, Oprah Winfrey for her first Indian magazine cover, to creating bespoke masks for Prince Charles of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall for the Animal Ball. As the brand has evolved, he has also helmed a number of initiatives, both non-profit and for- profit including the Save The Sari project and the Sabyasachi Art Foundation, working closely with artisans and artists on models of economic sustainability. With flagship stores in most major cities across India, he has launched his first international store in New York in 2022. Over a little more than two decades, Mukherjee has redefined Indian fashion and design into a lifestyle firmly rooted in heritage, craftsmanship and authenticity.
