If only everyone could have a life story with as many plot twists as Marni creative director Francesco Risso’s. Born on a boat off of Sardinia, he spent his first four years at sea and then constantly travelled, keeping Italy as solid point of reference. And when he was barely out of his teens, he founded a boutique in Genoa, selling the likes of Alaïa and Margiela. Risso worked for Miuccia Prada, and he shares his mentor’s love of quirky, off-kilter elegance and a left-field approach to luxury. His early Marni collections have been marked by their mid-century signora chic twisted with techno fabrics and a radical and intriguing play on proportions.
